Driver suspended for 90 days after letting child steer moving vehicle in Parañaque

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered a 90-day suspension of a driver’s license after he was caught on video allowing a child to control the steering wheel of a moving vehicle in a Parañaque City mall parking lot.

In a statement on Friday, the DOTr confirmed the suspension, saying the driver was seen in the viral clip holding a child on his lap while letting the minor steer through the parking area, with both parked and oncoming cars nearby. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) identified the incident as having occurred on August 12.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reminded motorists that the law strictly prohibits children from driving. “Hindi mo puwedeng pagmanehuhin ‘yung bata mong anak na walang student permit, tapos musmos pa. Kabilin-bilinan ng Pangulo, sumunod na lang tayo sa batas, dahil baka hindi lang license suspension ang abutin mo, puwedeng makulong ka pa,” he warned.

The DOTr urged drivers to prioritize road safety and act responsibly, especially when young children are present in their vehicles.
