Pura Luka Vega, the drag artist behind the controversial “Ama Namin” performance, faced another arrest on Thursday following complaints about the viral act. According to Rod Singh, director of “Drag Den Philippines,” Luka was apprehended after a Quezon City court issued a warrant for three counts of the same offense.
Singh explained that the complaints were lodged by three churches associated with the Philippines for Jesus Movement. The court set the bail at 360,000 pesos. Previously, Luka had posted bail amounting to 720,000 pesos in Pasay City on February 26, following a complaint filed by the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, which cited six counts of Violation of Article 201 in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Last October, Luka faced arrest due to similar complaints stemming from the “Ama Namin” performance, which garnered attention on social media in July. During Luka’s previous detainment, fellow drag artists organized a fundraising show that collected P892,975.60 in donations toward bail. Luka was released after three days.
In December, Luka celebrated the dismissal of “at least one” case filed against them, expressing in an interview with GMA News Online that their performance aimed to represent a version of Christ resonating with the queer community.
