Well-known cardiologist and online health advocate Dr. Willie Ong has publicly endorsed former senator Bam Aquino in his return to the Senate race for the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections.
Ong, who recently stepped away from his own senatorial run due to his battle with sarcoma cancer, likened Aquino’s public service to his own lifelong mission as a doctor. “Just as I’ve dedicated my life to healing Filipinos, I see Bam doing the same through public service,” Ong shared.
He specifically praised Aquino’s commitment to accessible education, calling it a cause close to his heart. In a show of support, Ong and his wife, Dr. Liza Ong, were seen raising Aquino’s hand and flashing the number “5” — Aquino’s spot on the ballot — during a visit from Bam and his wife Timi at Ong’s Pasay City office.
Ong, who previously ran for vice president in 2022 with former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, initially filed for a Senate comeback in October 2024 but officially withdrew this February to focus on his cancer treatment. He has completed six chemotherapy cycles and is now undergoing immunotherapy and targeted treatment.
