DOTr vows action after fatal NAIA accident involving Dubai-bound passenger

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon has vowed to ensure justice for Derick Keo Faustino, one of the victims in the tragic vehicular incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Dizon expressed his condolences to the family of Faustino, a 29-year-old senior supervisor from a publishing company in Metro Manila who tragically lost his life while preparing for a business trip to Dubai. The fatal crash, which occurred at the airport’s departure curbside, also claimed the life of a four-year-old girl who was there to see off her father.

In a statement released Saturday, the DOTr emphasized that they are fully committed to implementing the President’s directive to ensure that justice is served — not only through legal proceedings but also by reinforcing safety protocols and policies to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“Tiniyak ng kalihim na nakatutok ang DOTr sa pagsunod sa utos ng Pangulo na bigyan sila ng hustisya, hindi lamang sa batas kundi pati sa mga programa at polisiyang sisiguro na hindi na mauulit ang nangyaring insidente,” the agency said.

Faustino’s family, who are from Hagonoy, Bulacan, have been devastated by the loss of their breadwinner. His aunt, Marissa Faustino Cruz, previously voiced the family’s grief and frustration over the circumstances of his death, questioning the immediate response at the scene.

The family has already taken legal action, filing affidavits with the Pasay City Police to pursue charges against the driver involved in the crash.

Faustino was laid to rest on May 11, 2025, at Paombong Memorial Park.
