DOTr eyes weekly ‘Do Not Imitate’ list for traffic violators

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is preparing to publicly name traffic violators in a bid to discourage reckless behavior on the road.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday said the agency plans to release a weekly list tentatively called the “Do Not Imitate” or “Do Not Follow” list.

“We have a plan to publish a list every week. We will probably call it the ‘Do Not Imitate’ or ‘Do Not Follow’ list,” Dizon said in Filipino during a press conference.

The announcement came after the perpetual revocation of a driver’s license following a grave traffic offense. Dizon stressed that the measure aims to hold violators accountable not only through fines or cases but also through public exposure.

“If you’re not afraid of cases or fines, then maybe this will make you feel ashamed. I’m serious about this. If you don’t want to end up on that list once we implement it, then you’d better start behaving,” he warned.

Dizon added that Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Vigor Mendoza is currently reviewing the initiative before its rollout.
