The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has sounded the alarm over the spread of bogus taxi fare guides reportedly being used at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), warning both drivers and government personnel that violators will be held accountable.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon issued a strong statement on Thursday condemning the use of these fraudulent rates. “We will not tolerate this. The government will go after those spreading fake taxi rates, as well as operators and drivers who overcharge passengers,” he said. He also made it clear that government employees involved in such schemes would face consequences.
The fake fare tables have reportedly been circulated online and allegedly used by some taxi operators at NAIA terminals, sparking concern among passengers and watchdog groups. The DOTr emphasized that these rates are not authorized by the agency and urged travelers to remain vigilant.
The department advised the public to verify fare information only through official sources and to report any incidents of overcharging immediately.
