DOJ to evaluate investigation on VP Duterte’s alleged death threat against President Marcos, others

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to assess the findings of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the alleged death threat by Vice President Sara Duterte against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

During a Palace briefing on Monday, DOJ Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon confirmed that the NBI has completed its investigation. However, further evaluation of the evidence is required.

“We have been informed that the NBI finished its investigation. Prosecutors will review the evidence to determine if a case can be filed or if additional work is needed,” Fadullon explained.

He emphasized that the DOJ and NBI are coordinating closely to ensure a comprehensive review of the case.

The controversy stems from a press conference where Duterte allegedly stated she had ordered someone to kill the president, his wife, and Romualdez in the event of her assassination. In response, the vice president claimed in an open letter on November 25 that her remarks were “maliciously taken out of logical context.”

The National Security Council earlier highlighted the seriousness of threats against the president, considering them matters of national security.
