The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it will delay action on Malacañang’s request to cancel the Philippine passports of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo and her siblings, who allegedly fled the country last month. DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla stated that the decision to hold off on the cancellation was made to avoid potential legal complications.
Remulla emphasized that canceling the passports immediately could hinder efforts to bring Guo and her siblings back to the Philippines. He noted that the law on passport cancellation will be followed, but at a later time.
DOJ Undersecretary Nicholas Ty echoed Remulla’s sentiments, explaining that setting aside the request for now has facilitated the quick deportation of Guo’s sister, Shiela, and her companion, Cassandra Li Ong. Meanwhile, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) reported that Alice Guo and her brother Wesley are still in Batam, Indonesia, according to information from their counterparts.
