Health Secretary Ted Herbosa has proposed adding “wellness” to the name of the Department of Health (DOH), suggesting it be renamed to the “Department of Health and Wellness.”
DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo supported the idea, describing it as “sound” and aligned with the broad objectives of public health.
Domingo highlighted that the World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity,” emphasizing that this embodies the concept of wellness.
The proposal will undergo further study to evaluate its potential implementation.
