Dog meat trader in Bulacan sentenced to 3 years behind bars

A court in Bulacan has sentenced a man to up to three years in prison for slaughtering dogs and selling their meat. The conviction follows a two-year legal battle led by the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), which confirmed the trader’s arrest took place in San Ildefonso town two years ago.

While the identity of the trader and further case details were not disclosed, AKF announced that he was found guilty of violating Republic Act 10631, an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act (RA 8485).

“This journey to reach the verdict was arduous, but justice has finally been served for the four dead aspins and seven rescued dogs,” the AKF stated. The term aspin refers to asong Pinoy, or native Philippine dog.

AKF, supported by the Soi Dog Foundation, reaffirmed their commitment to fighting against animal cruelty. The groups hope this case inspires others to support the cause of protecting vulnerable animals.
