Dog accidentally fires gun, injures sleeping owner in US

A man in Memphis, Tennessee, was accidentally shot in the leg after his playful dog triggered a firearm while jumping on the bed.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday morning while the man was asleep beside his girlfriend. Their one-year-old pit bull, named Oreo, jumped onto the bed and accidentally stepped on the gun’s trigger, causing it to discharge. The bullet struck the man’s thigh, but he was safely taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities did not disclose the type of firearm involved but classified the incident as an “accidental injury.”

The victim’s girlfriend, who was also asleep at the time, told Fox 13 Memphis that their dog is energetic and playful.

“The dog is a playful dog, and he likes to jump around and stuff like that, and it just went off,” she said.

Although gun-related incidents are common in the U.S., cases involving animals accidentally firing weapons remain rare. In recent years, similar incidents have been reported, including a German shepherd stepping on a hunting rifle and a pit bull-Labrador mix accidentally shooting its owner in the leg.
