DMW works to expand no-placement fee countries for Filipino workers

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is working to broaden the list of countries where Filipinos can apply for jobs without paying placement fees, aiming to protect them from financial exploitation.

DMW Undersecretary Patricia Yvonne Caunan, in a PNA report, emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) through ethical recruitment practices. She highlighted Qatar’s recent inclusion as a no-placement-fee country, following DMW’s discussions with Qatari counterparts.

This policy reinforces the employer-pay principle, ensuring no recruitment fees are charged to Filipino workers. Other countries on the list include the United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Canada, the United States (including Guam), Norway, and Israel.

The DMW has urged workers to be aware of this policy, emphasizing its importance in safeguarding OFWs from unnecessary financial burdens.
