The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is calling on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families to remain vigilant and health-conscious amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in parts of Southeast Asia.
While the Department of Health (DOH) has said there is no cause for alarm, DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac stressed the importance of staying informed and compliant with local health protocols abroad.
“We are just reiterating these health advisory reminders of the DOH, especially for our OFWs to take care of themselves, and to continue following their host countries’ health and safety protocols,” Cacdac said, following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to uphold the safety and welfare of Filipino workers overseas.
The DOH noted a steep decline in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with only 1,774 cases reported as of May 3, 2025—an 87% drop from the same period last year. Still, the department remains in constant coordination with ASEAN nations and continues to track verified health data in the region.
The DMW encouraged OFWs to continue basic preventive practices, such as wearing masks in healthcare settings, isolating when sick, observing proper hygiene, and seeking medical consultation when symptoms appear.
Migrant Workers Offices across Southeast Asia are also ready to assist OFWs with any urgent concerns, ensuring that support remains accessible for those in need.
