DMW to file civil cases vs NAIA crash suspect and employer, says Cacdac

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will pursue separate civil cases for damages against the driver responsible for the tragic NAIA crash and his employer, following orders from Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac.

During a meeting with the grieving Masongsong family held at Robinsons Galleria in Mandaluyong City, Secretary Cacdac personally instructed DMW counsels of record—Regional Director Atty. Falconi Ace Millar and Atty. Farhan Jumdain—to initiate legal proceedings for damages on behalf of the victims.

The meeting came shortly after the Masongsongs attended the hearing at the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 109 for the reckless imprudence case against the accused driver, who earlier pleaded not guilty. The incident, which occurred on May 4 at NAIA Terminal 1, claimed the life of 4-year-old Malia Kates Masongsong and left her relatives Cynthia and Edith Masongsong seriously injured.

Cacdac reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stand by the family during this painful chapter. He emphasized that the pursuit of justice extends beyond criminal accountability, underscoring the importance of holding both the driver and his employer liable for the devastating loss and trauma inflicted.

Joining Cacdac during the meeting were OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan and other senior officials from the DMW, all of whom assured the Masongsong family of continued assistance in their legal and recovery journey.
