The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced that Rodaliza T. Baltazar, the mother of the 17-year-old teenager who was tragically shot by police in Navotas City, is set to return home after seeking assistance from the department.
DMW Officer-in-Charge and Undersecretary Bernard P. Olalia revealed that Baltazar is currently under the care of the DMW’s Migrant Workers Office in Doha, Qatar, and is awaiting her flight back to the Philippines.
Baltazar had been in hiding from Qatari authorities, working various odd jobs after fleeing from her employer last year.
She reached out to the DMW for assistance upon hearing the devastating news of her son’s untimely death.
A dedicated team from DMW, led by Acting MWO-Doha Head Don Albert Pangcog, successfully located Baltazar with the help of her daughter.
The team managed to facilitate her case resolution at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), resulting in Baltazar obtaining a final exit clearance.
The DMW, in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), has pledged significant support for Baltazar during this challenging time.
The agencies will jointly provide ₱100,000 in financial aid, and will also cover her repatriation expenses, as well as the funeral and burial costs for her deceased child.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the public of a fair and transparent investigation into the shooting incident.
PNP Spokesperson Jean Fajardo emphasized that there would be no cover-up in the process. She stated, “We want to assure everyone that there will be no whitewash here.
Our chief PNP assures the public that justice will be served for the victim, and the police officers involved will definitely face legal consequences, including administrative actions that could lead to their dismissal.”
