DMW releases nearly ₱1 million in aid to ailing OFWs in Hong Kong

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has disbursed almost ₱1 million in financial assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong who are battling life-threatening illnesses.

In a social media update on Monday, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed that the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Hong Kong released ₱949,136.47 under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund. The financial relief, amounting to ₱75,000 each, was extended to 12 OFWs diagnosed with conditions such as breast and cervical cancer, lymphoma, and severe heart attacks.

“These beneficiaries diagnosed with serious illnesses like breast and cervical cancer, lymphoma, and severe heart attack received ₱75,000 [each],” Cacdac said.

He stressed that the program highlights the Philippine government’s ongoing commitment to deliver “immediate and effective relief to OFWs in distress, ensuring their safety, security, and well-being.”

Apart from financial support, the AKSYON Fund also provides legal aid, medical and repatriation assistance, shipment of remains, and other necessary interventions.

The DMW encouraged Filipino workers in need of help to reach out to the MWO in Hong Kong, located on the 29th floor of the United Centre in Admiralty.
