The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has officially opened a new Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and Migrant Workers Resource Center (MWRC) in Muscat, Oman, strengthening the Philippine government’s frontline support services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Sultanate.
The facility, inaugurated on February 17, 2026, is expected to function as a central service hub for Filipinos working in Oman, offering welfare-related assistance and other key labor services under one expanded office.
The new MWO and MWRC will handle contract verification, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) services, Assistance-to-Nationals support, and welfare aid for OFWs who require immediate intervention. It will also provide temporary shelter through the MWRC for those needing short-term accommodation while their cases are being addressed.
The opening ceremony was led by Philippine Ambassador to Oman Noralyn Jubaira Baja, together with Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul Jr. and Assistant Secretary Violeta D. Illescas. Also present were DMW officials, Philippine Embassy staff, and representatives from the Filipino community in Oman.
DMW said the transfer to a larger MWO facility is part of efforts to improve the delivery of government services to Filipino workers abroad, especially as Oman continues to host a sizeable number of OFWs.
The DMW noted that the strengthened presence in Muscat supports the Philippine government’s capacity to assist around 45,000 Filipinos currently working across various industries in the Sultanate.
