The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has pledged its full support to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose five-year-old daughter was tragically killed in a vehicular crash at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on May 4.
The OFW, who was bound for Europe, was with his family at the airport when an SUV suddenly rammed into a group of people at the departure area. The crash left two individuals dead, including his young daughter, and injured four others—among them his wife, who remains in critical condition, and his mother, who has since been declared out of danger.
“The Department grieves with the OFW and prays for his wife’s swift recovery,” the DMW said in a statement released Monday.
The agency confirmed that, following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it is working closely with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Department of Transportation, and the New NAIA Infra Corporation to provide all necessary support to the grieving family.
This includes legal and employment-related assistance, such as coordinating with the OFW’s employer abroad to explain his absence due to the tragic circumstances.
The DMW also echoed the family’s call for justice, stating its support in seeking accountability for the incident that took place Sunday morning.
According to the Philippine Red Cross, the fatalities included an adult male and a four-year-old girl, contradicting earlier reports stating the child’s age as five. The crash left four others injured.
