DMW checking if Filipino seafarers were hurt in Gulf of Aden ship attack

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Tuesday it is verifying if Filipinos were among those injured after a Dutch-flagged cargo ship was attacked in the Gulf of Aden.

“Agad pong nakikipag-ugnayan ang DMW sa ship operator, employer, mga manning agency, at sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) kasama ang ating mga konsulado upang beripikahin kung may Pilipino ngang kabilang sa mga apektado,” the agency announced in a social media post.

The DMW added it is ready to provide medical care, repatriation, counseling and psychological support, legal assistance, and other needed help to affected Filipino seafarers and their families.

According to a Reuters report, rescuers evacuated 19 crew members from the vessel Minervagracht—composed of Russian, Ukrainian, Filipino, and Sri Lankan nationals—after the ship was hit with an explosive device and caught fire.

Authorities confirmed that one crew member sustained minor injuries and is now in stable condition, while another was critically injured and taken to Djibouti in East Africa for treatment.

The DMW said it will release further updates once official confirmation is received.
