DMW assists OFW who suffered miscarriage during flight to Korea

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is extending full support to a Filipina overseas worker who suffered a tragic miscarriage aboard a Jeju Air flight en route to Incheon, South Korea.

The incident, which occurred mid-air during a trip from Clark International Airport with a stopover in Incheon before heading to Saipan, has left the OFW and her family in mourning. She was traveling with her husband, mother-in-law, and daughter when the miscarriage took place.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, the newborn was declared dead on arrival at INHA University Hospital, where the mother was rushed by emergency responders upon landing.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac assured the public that the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Seoul has already reached out to the OFW, who is currently in stable physical condition. “A clear directive by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is to always ensure the safety and well-being of our OFWs, especially in times of their utmost need,” he said.

The department is covering the OFW’s hospital expenses and will assist the family with the autopsy required by Korean authorities, as well as the swift repatriation of the baby’s remains.

Incheon Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the in-flight miscarriage.
