DMW answers OFW mother’s plea, helps PWD son in Pateros

A 32-year-old person with disability battling gallbladder illness and other health complications has received immediate medical and financial aid from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) through its Aksyon Fund.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, together with the DMW-NCR team, personally visited the patient—identified as “John Elmer”—and his family in Pateros on August 25, 2025 to deliver assistance.

John Elmer is the son of an overseas Filipino worker employed as a caregiver in Saudi Arabia. His mother had written directly to Secretary Cacdac, seeking help for her son’s condition.

Moved by the appeal, the DMW acted swiftly, extending not just financial support but also arranging for his laboratory tests and medical procedures to be conducted at the OFW Hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga. The team also offered prayers for his recovery.

The aid was granted under the DMW Aksyon Fund, a flagship program that provides urgent support—such as medical, legal, financial, and repatriation assistance—to overseas Filipino workers and their families.

Since its launch, the Aksyon Fund has already assisted over 135,000 OFWs and their dependents worldwide, covering emergencies from conflict repatriations to critical health needs.
