DMW and OWWA officials visit Dubai to bring more services to OFWs

Top officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) visited the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai on August 2, 2025, reinforcing their commitment to better serve Filipinos overseas through stronger inter-agency collaboration.

DMW Undersecretaries Jainal T. Rasul and Dominique Rubia-Tutay, Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi, and OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan met with Consul General Marford Angeles to affirm the One-Country Team Approach, a unified strategy to streamline efforts and services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Discussions focused on key areas such as enhancing digital service delivery, ensuring adequate manpower and funding for the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), and expanding initiatives to support OFWs in both the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Among the priority programs is the expansion of the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo – OFW Serbisyo Caravan, which aims to bring essential government services directly to OFW communities across the Emirates. This aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make government services more accessible to Filipinos abroad.

The delegation also highlighted a renewed focus on community engagement. Plans include launching a series of activities such as basketball, volleyball, and cheer dance competitions, along with E-sports tournaments and talent showcases. A revival of “Friendship Day”—first introduced by former DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque—is also in the works.

The visit marks a strengthened partnership between the DMW, OWWA, and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dubai—working hand in hand to ensure protection, empowerment, and a deeper connection with the Filipino diaspora.
