The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have teamed up to provide entrepreneurial training and support for the productive reintegration of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), GMA News reported.
Under their partnership, the two agencies will assist OFWs and their families in establishing and managing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The collaboration aims to foster a business-friendly environment that encourages entrepreneurship among returning OFWs.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “An empowered MSME sector means a healthy and conducive environment for entrepreneurship, which augurs well for OFWs interested in having their own business.”
The DTI will focus on promoting investment options for OFWs and facilitating access to financial support through government and private institutions. Meanwhile, the DMW will maintain a database of qualified beneficiaries and ensure their inclusion in the program.
DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque emphasized the partnership’s long-term impact, saying, “We aim to empower OFWs and their families by equipping them with the necessary tools and opportunities to become successful entrepreneurs, which is an investment in their future and our nation’s growth.”
