Diocesan phase opens for the beatification and canonization of Laureana “Ka Luring” Franco

The Diocese of Pasig has officially opened the diocesan phase for the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Laureana “Ka Luring” Franco, a revered lay catechist.

Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara led the opening ceremony, coinciding with the 21st anniversary of the Diocese of Pasig at the Minor Basilica and Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig City.

Ka Luring, known for her tireless dedication to the Catholic faith and service to the poor, was a member of the Legion of Mary. Her exemplary life and steadfast commitment to her community have brought her one step closer to sainthood, following the Vatican’s approval in July to begin the process of her canonization.

Born in 1936, Franco devoted her life to spreading the Gospel and aiding those in need. Her work as a catechist touched the lives of many, particularly within the Diocese of Pasig, where she tirelessly taught the Catholic faith. Franco’s humility, kindness, and generosity made her a symbol of faith and compassion, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.

Franco’s journey towards beatification began with her being declared a Servant of God, recognizing her life’s work and faith as worthy of sainthood. The ongoing diocesan phase will further investigate her life and virtues as part of the path to her possible canonization.
