The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is holding off on canceling the passport of former Bamban mayor Alice Guo, pending a court order. Senator Risa Hontiveros recently urged the DFA to take action after revealing that Guo had left the country last month, traveling to Malaysia, Singapore, and later Indonesia.
Winston Casio, spokesperson for the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, confirmed Guo’s movements, aligning with Hontiveros’ statements during a Senate session.
Hontiveros emphasized the need for the DFA to act swiftly, especially after Guo’s Filipino citizenship was called into question. However, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega clarified that a court order is necessary to proceed with the passport cancellation, as Guo’s birth certificate has not been revoked by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Guo, who is wanted in connection with human trafficking charges tied to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO), remains under close watch by authorities following the Senate’s arrest warrant issued in July.
