DepEd to reduce paperwork for teachers, allowing more focus on teaching

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced plans to ease the administrative workload of public school teachers by reducing required school forms by 57%.

Under the new policy, teachers will regularly complete only five forms instead of the previous 174. However, additional forms may still be required for specific tasks, including 31 for ancillary duties and 39 for teaching-related assignments.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that the move directly addresses long-standing teacher concerns about excessive paperwork. “Reducing their bureaucratic workload will not only improve their well-being but also enhance the quality of instruction they provide to our learners,” he said.

DepEd will soon issue a department order formalizing the new guidelines, along with nationwide orientation sessions to ensure a smooth transition. The agency is also working on a data management framework to standardize reporting and eliminate redundant documentation.

Additionally, DepEd plans to renew and hire 7,062 school-based administrative support staff to further relieve teachers of non-teaching tasks, allowing them to focus more on lesson preparation and student engagement.
