Dennis Padilla reveals quirky wedding gifts—‘astig’ cap and bagoong—for daughter

Dennis Padilla has once again made headlines after revealing the unique wedding gifts he had prepared for his daughter, Claudia Barretto, who recently tied the knot with Basti Lorenzo in a private ceremony in Alabang on April 9.

In a now-deleted video initially posted on Facebook, Padilla showcased his gifts, including a white cap embroidered with the word “astig,” a box with his own face printed on it, and two jars of bagoong in sweet and spicy variants. “It’s an exciting day today. Prepare ko muna ang mga gifts ko. Una, ang aking souvenir para sa kanilang dalawa, ang ‘astig’ cap. And then, siyempre, meron din akong binalot na [bagoong], dalawang flavor yan: merong sweet at merong spicy,” he said.

The video re-emerged on social media after Padilla publicly expressed his disappointment, saying he felt like just a guest at Claudia’s wedding. He lamented not being asked to walk his daughter down the aisle and not being part of the entourage, describing the experience as painful and a sign that reconciliation with his children may no longer be possible.

In response, Marjorie Barretto, Claudia’s mother and Padilla’s former wife, broke her silence. She defended her children, stating that Dennis had agreed beforehand that he would not walk Claudia down the aisle. She also accused him of causing emotional distress by repeatedly airing their family matters in public. “Napapahiya ang mga bata sa mga sinasabi niya,” Marjorie said, adding that Dennis’ efforts seemed more focused on gaining attention than rebuilding broken ties.
