Darryl Yap posts P20,000 bail after Muntinlupa court issues arrest warrant for libel

A Muntinlupa court issued an arrest warrant against filmmaker Darryl Yap over two counts of libel but later recalled it after he posted bail.

In an order dated March 19, the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 203 confirmed that Yap secured his temporary release by paying a cash bond of P10,000 per count, totaling P20,000.

His legal counsel, Atty. Raymund Fortun, verified that the charges were related to alleged libelous content in Yap’s upcoming film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma. The teaser, released on January 1, featured a scene where a character played by Gina Alajar asked the lead actress, portraying Pepsi Paloma, if she had been raped by actor-host Vic Sotto, to which she responded, “Yes.”

The libel case, filed on March 17, falls under Articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Yap’s arraignment is scheduled for March 26, 2025.

Both Yap and Sotto’s representatives have declined to comment on the matter.
