Dante Ang II named as the new head of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Dante Francis “Klink” Ang II as the new chairman of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), succeeding Romulo Arugay. The appointment, formalized in a letter dated October 16, 2024, places Ang at the helm of the agency responsible for promoting the interests and welfare of overseas Filipinos.

Ang, who is the chairman and CEO of The Manila Times, was previously appointed as an acting board member of the Clark International Airport Corporation in 2023. He has also served as chairman of the National Book Development Board.

Notably, Ang’s father, Dante Arevalo Ang, held the same CFO position during the administration of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The senior Ang was also appointed as special envoy for international public relations by former president Rodrigo Duterte.

The CFO, under the Office of the President, plays a key role in supporting overseas Filipinos, providing pre-departure orientation seminars and fostering ties between Filipinos abroad and the Philippines. It operates separately from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, focusing on a broader scope of the Filipino diaspora.
