Veteran entertainment journalist Cristy Fermin revealed that she lost a legal battle involving five counts of libel filed against her by actress Sharon Cuneta and former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. Fermin shared the news during her online show, Cristy Ferminute, on October 17, stating that she received the letter and posted bail.
“Talo po ako sa five counts ng libel,” Cristy admitted, explaining how the cost of bail has significantly increased. “Noon, P10,000 lang po per count ang bail, ngayon P48,000 na po.”
Fermin admitted feeling emotional upon receiving the letter but remained determined to fight the charges. “Pagkatapos ko pong matanggap, ako po ay emosyonal at malungkot. Siyempre wala namang pagkabigo sa laban na masaya,” she said.
While dealing with this legal matter, Cristy received an unexpected recognition from the GEMS organization, which awarded her as the “Best Digital Program Host” for her show, Showbiz Now Na.
“Ang aking lugmok na kalooban, nagbigay sila ng parangal na ikagagalak naman po ng aking puso,” she added, expressing gratitude for the honor amid her challenges.
Despite this setback, Cristy reassured her supporters that this is only the beginning of the legal process, with the case now moving to the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Makati.
“Unang hakbang pa lamang ito sa piskalya. Kung ano po ang maganap dito, mayroon pa po tayong Court of Appeals at Supreme Court,” she assured.
In a recent development, a court dismissed the four cases filed by Sarah Lahbati’s parents against Fermin and her co-hosts earlier this year. These included cyberlibel, harassment, defamation, and unjust vexation.
