Crime rate in Western Visayas drops by 20.74% in first nine months of 2025

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) has reported a sharp decline in criminal incidents across Western Visayas, with index crimes dropping by 20.74% from January to September 2025 compared to the same period last year.

According to Regional Director Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, a total of 1,261 index crime incidents were recorded this year, down from 1,591 cases during the same months in 2024. The reduction, he said, reflects the continuing impact of intensified police visibility and strengthened community partnerships across the region.

Ligan added that non-index crimes, which include offenses covered by special laws, also registered a 6.89% decrease—from 4,791 cases last year to 4,461 cases this year.

Among the so-called focus crimes, which comprise murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carjacking, PRO6 recorded a 20.88% drop, from 1,585 cases in 2024 to 1,254 this year. Physical injury, theft, and rape remained the most commonly reported offenses, though each saw a notable decline in frequency.
