Crew member dies after emergency landing following mid-air smoke incident

A Swiss International Air Lines crew member has passed away following an emergency landing caused by engine trouble on December 23, the airline confirmed in an AFP report on Monday.

The Airbus A220-300, carrying 74 passengers and five crew members, was en route from Bucharest to Zurich when it was forced to land in Graz, Austria. The emergency occurred after engine issues led to smoke filling the cockpit and cabin.

Swiss released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their young colleague, who succumbed to injuries in a hospital in Graz.

Swiss CEO Jens Fehlinger described the tragedy as a devastating loss for the airline. “Our thoughts are with his family, whose pain we cannot imagine. On behalf of all of us at Swiss, I offer my heartfelt condolences and assure them of our full support during this extremely difficult time,” he said.
