Couple shocked after discovering ransacked Pag-IBIG house, forced to spend P500K on repairs

A couple was left devastated after discovering that the house they acquired through a Pag-IBIG Fund foreclosure auction was severely damaged by its previous owner before vacating the property.

According to a report by 24 Oras, the couple had to spend around P500,000 on repairs after the former occupant removed doors, destroyed walls, and dismantled fixtures, including the toilet, sink, and electrical wiring. The previous owner even poured cement into the drainage system and left behind an unsettled P4,000 water bill.

The couple won the house for P2.9 million after it was foreclosed due to the prior owner’s failure to make payments for 10 months. With a downpayment of only P15,000 and a monthly mortgage of P19,000 for 30 years, they expected a smooth transition—only to face unexpected costs due to the damages.

They claimed that the previous owner retaliated after they refused to allow them to stay in the house until January 30. “Gusto nilang mag-Pasko at New Year dito,” one of the new owners said, explaining that they had to move in because their rental contract had already ended.

Pag-IBIG Fund condemned the act, stating that the previous owner committed theft and vandalism. “Wala ho talagang karapatan yung prior occupant na sirain o kunin ang alinmang bagay sa property,” said Pag-IBIG Vice President Domingo Jacinto Jr.

The couple won their case in court, leading to the eviction of the previous owner. However, their request for Pag-IBIG to reassess the value of the damaged house was denied, as the destruction was caused by the prior occupant.
