A couple and their 14-year-old adopted daughter were fatally shot inside their home in San Francisco, Camotes Island, Cebu, late Thursday night, December 12, allegedly by a close family friend over a debt dispute, Cebu Daily News reported.
The victims were identified as Bernardo Sampan, 42, his wife Narsisa Sampan, 41, and their adopted daughter. The family’s youngest son, a minor, survived the attack by jumping out of the window upon his father’s orders. Their eldest son was not at home during the incident.
According to the police, the suspect, identified only as “Randy,” visited the family’s house in Sitio Timubo, Barangay Cabungaan, at around 11:50 p.m. and was warmly welcomed by the Sampans. While eating together, Bernardo reportedly instructed his son to flee, despite no visible signs of conflict. Moments later, gunshots were heard.
Authorities said Randy shot the three victims in the head before fleeing the scene. The victims were rushed to Ricardo Maningo Memorial Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
The youngest son revealed that while the suspect did not explicitly ask for money that night, it was likely related to a previous loan dispute. The Sampans were known in their community for selling fruits and vegetables and often lent money to acquaintances.
