The UAE is experiencing a rise in flu cases as more residents return from their summer vacations, combined with fluctuating weather conditions and decreasing temperatures. Hospitals are seeing an uptick in patients reporting symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and respiratory issues, with doctors noting that the current season is a prime time for flu viruses to spread.
According to Dr. Nishi Singh, a virologist at Medcon FZC, the combination of cooler weather, increased humidity, and global travel makes it easier for respiratory viruses to thrive. “Returning residents often bring back new flu strains that circulate in the community,” she explained in a Khaleej Times report.
Doctors are emphasizing the importance of flu vaccines, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Dr. Jaya Geetha from Zulekha Hospital urged residents to get vaccinated, even mid-season, to reduce the severity of symptoms and prevent further transmission.
In addition to vaccination, healthcare professionals recommend basic preventive measures like frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with infected individuals, and maintaining proper hygiene. Doctors also advise those who contract the flu to rest, stay hydrated, and manage symptoms with over-the-counter medications.
With flu season in full swing, experts are urging vigilance to prevent further spread and protect public health.
