Comelec to brief ‘Batang Quiapo’ team on election laws after controversial scene

Following the recent controversy over a “Sexy Babe” contestant, representatives from the hit television series Batang Quiapo are set to meet with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to gain a better understanding of election laws.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed that executives from the show will visit the commission’s headquarters in Intramuros, Manila, on March 13.

This comes after election lawyer Romulo Macalintal urged Comelec to invite the people behind Batang Quiapo to ensure accurate portrayals of campaign regulations in television narratives. His request followed a scene from the March 5 episode, where a fictional Manila mayor, played by Albert Martinez, criticized the vice mayor, portrayed by Chanda Romero, for alleged premature campaigning—a depiction Macalintal deemed misleading.

Garcia emphasized the need for television programs to present election-related scenes truthfully to avoid spreading misinformation.
