Comelec revokes registration of party-list group using ‘PBBM’ name

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has cancelled the registration of the Pilipinas Babangon Muli (PBBM) party-list after ruling that it falsely claimed to represent the Calabarzon region while nominating candidates from other areas.

In its recent decision, the Comelec Second Division found that the group violated party-list rules by declaring itself a regional representative of Calabarzon—comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon—but listing nominees from locations such as Abra, Cagayan, and Quezon City.

“This misrepresentation violates the party’s registration requirements,” stated lawyer Jess Christian Ramirez, who filed the disqualification petition in March 2025, in a Daily Tribune report earlier. He cited provisions under Republic Act 7941 and Comelec Resolution 9366, arguing the party-list engaged in deception and false representation.

Ramirez emphasized that not a single nominee came from Calabarzon, the very region the group claimed to represent.

He also warned that the group’s use of the acronym “PBBM,” associated with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., could mislead voters. “The party-list may be exploiting its registration for political and financial gain,” Ramirez added.

Malacañang earlier distanced the President from the group. “While we appreciate their support for the government’s initiatives, the President’s name should not be used for personal political agendas,” said Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro.

She further encouraged the public to “carefully assess the platforms of party-list groups for the benefit of the nation.”
