Comelec debunks spliced video alleging online voting irregularities

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied allegations of vote tampering in the internet voting system for overseas Filipinos, calling a circulating Facebook video “malicious and misleading.”

In a post on its official Facebook page, Comelec clarified that a video showing Director Ian Michael Geonanga’s interview was deliberately cropped to misrepresent the context. The full version, according to Comelec, clearly explains the commissionโ€™s position on concerns raised by some voters regarding unfamiliar names appearing on their ballots during the ongoing internet voting process.

Comelec said the spliced footage was intended to cast doubt on the integrity of the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS) used for the May 12, 2025 elections, despite safeguards in place to ensure its accuracy and transparency.
