A 19-year-old college student was arrested in Cebu City, suspected of orchestrating a bomb threat at Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus on October 21, 2024.
According to a report by Alan Domingo on GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the suspect, a first-year student at the university, declined interviews but reportedly expressed regret for her actions.
Following the bomb scare, the National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO), in coordination with the NBI-Manila Anti-Cybercrime Division, conducted an investigation and eventually identified the suspect. Authorities say she used a social media post featuring an image of a bomb, along with a pseudonym, to make the threat against the university.
The suspect claimed she was coerced into making the threat but did not provide further details on who pressured her.
She is now facing charges under Presidential Decree 1727, also known as the Bomb Joke/Threat Law, as well as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
