Coldplay makes history with four sold-out shows for 200,000 fans in Abu Dhabi

Coldplay made history in the UAE by performing the largest concert series ever in the country, captivating over 200,000 fans across four sold-out shows at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City Stadium, Time Out Dubai reported. The performances, held as part of their ongoing Music of the Spheres world tour, marked the band’s only stop in the Middle East this year.

Originally announced as a single show, overwhelming demand led to the addition of three more dates. Fans packed the stadium, including the pitch area, pushing capacity beyond the usual 45,000 limit and setting a new benchmark for live events in the UAE. This surpassed the previous record set by Ed Sheeran, who drew 69,000 fans across two shows in Dubai last year.

The concerts featured Coldplay’s biggest hits, tracks from their 10th studio album Moon Music, vibrant light displays, and interactive elements like the iconic “moongoggles.” The atmosphere was electric, with fans sharing unforgettable moments, including marriage proposals, across social media.

Presented by Live Nation Middle East and supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the event required special transport arrangements. Free shuttles between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as well as intra-city transport, ensured fans could enjoy the shows smoothly.

With hints from Coldplay’s Chris Martin about a possible retirement after their 12th album, this series may have been a rare opportunity for GCC fans to see the legendary band live. However, James Craven, President of Live Nation Middle East, teased in the same report about potential future collaborations with the group, promising more iconic events in the region.
