Coldplay frontman stumbles into open trapdoor, laughs it off with crowd in Melbourne

Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, took a surprising fall through an open trapdoor on stage during the band’s Melbourne concert on November 3. In videos circulating online, Martin is seen walking backward and engaging with fans before unexpectedly stepping into the trapdoor.

Quick to recover, Martin laughed off the incident, joking, “That’s not planned!” and adding, “Holy s**t, that was nearly a YouTube moment,” while thanking a crew member for catching him.

The mishap happened during Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, which kicked off in March 2022. The band, comprising Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion, previously stopped in the Philippines for a memorable performance with Lola Amour, covering “Raining in Manila.”

The tour will continue until September next year, with the band wrapping up their Australian shows in Sydney before heading to more international destinations. Known for hits like Viva La Vida, Fix You, and A Sky Full of Stars, Coldplay recently released their 10th album, Moon Music.
