Coca-Cola in UAE safe to drink, authorities confirm

Coca-Cola products sold in the UAE are safe for consumption and do not contain high levels of chlorate, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCE) confirmed on Thursday.

The ministry, along with local regulatory bodies, assured that all Coca-Cola beverages in the country comply with strict food safety standards. Unlike the European recall affecting Coke, Sprite, and Fanta, the products available in UAE markets are produced locally at bottling plants in Abu Dhabi.

This clarification follows an announcement by Coca-Cola’s European bottling unit, which recently recalled several beverages across Belgium, the Netherlands, Britain, Germany, France, and Luxembourg due to high chlorate levels. Chlorate, commonly found in food and water treatment processes, may pose health risks with prolonged exposure, particularly for children with iodine deficiencies.

The MoCCE reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety and protecting consumers through constant monitoring in collaboration with relevant authorities.
