Clark airport sets target of 4 million passengers with new flight routes

Clark International Airport is setting ambitious goals to double its passenger volume to four million this year, capitalizing on the gradual reopening of the economy and the introduction of 13 new routes. Arrey Perez, the president and CEO of Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), expressed optimism about the increasing travel activities at the Pampanga-based airport during an event in Taguig on Friday.

Perez highlighted the positive impact of the ongoing economic resurgence on Clark International Airport’s performance. He emphasized the significant role of the airport in the country’s tourism and transport sectors, stating, “The aggressive plans for tourism in the country will ensure that we attract more travelers.”

In 2023, CIAC plans to expand its network by launching new domestic and international routes, including destinations like Taipei, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Narita, Macau, Cheongju, Coron, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, and Puerto Princesa. These additions are expected to bolster the airport’s connectivity and appeal.

The airport, currently serving 23 airlines, offers flights to 11 international and 10 domestic destinations. It boasts a passenger terminal with an 8-million annual capacity. Notably, last year, the airport witnessed a significant 158% increase in passenger volume, reaching 2 million, and managed 14,892 flights.

The expansion isn’t limited to passenger services. Perez mentioned plans to enhance the operations of cargo operators at the airport, with major global logistics companies like FedEx and UPS already in place. Additionally, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP), a joint venture between MacroAsia Corp. and Lufthansa Technik AG, is planning a P15 billion investment to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility in Clark, aiming to start the first phase this year.
