City government offers assistance to family of OFW found dead in Kuwait

The Cagayan de Oro City government has pledged assistance to the family of Daphne Nacalaban, a 35-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose body was discovered buried in the yard of her employer’s home in Kuwait.

In a PNA report, Mayor Rolando Uy assured Nacalaban’s family of free transportation to Zamboanga del Sur, where the burial rites will take place. According to a statement, the body will be laid to rest in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, where Nacalaban’s partner and 14-year-old child reside.

Originally from Barangay Dansolihon in Cagayan de Oro, Nacalaban had been working in Kuwait since December 2019. She was reported missing by her second employer in October 2024, and her remains were found on December 31, 2024, in the gardener’s yard of the employer’s home in Saad Al-Abdullah, Jahra.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) are working to repatriate Nacalaban’s body.

Representative Rufus Rodriguez has filed House Resolution 2151, urging OWWA and DMW to expedite the resolution of the case. “Ms. Nacalaban’s tragic passing is a grim reminder of the many dangers our OFWs face, especially domestic workers,” Rodriguez said.
