CHR vows to monitor government’s actions after OFW found dead in Kuwait

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has pledged to oversee the government’s compliance with laws safeguarding overseas Filipino workers, following the tragic death of a Filipina in Kuwait.

In a statement, the CHR expressed solidarity with efforts to seek justice for Dafnie Nacalaban, whose decomposing body was discovered in her employer’s yard on December 31, 2024. Nacalaban had been reported missing since October 2024.

“No Filipino should face harm while striving for a better future abroad,” the CHR was quoted as saying in an Inquirer.net report, adding that it would continue monitoring the government’s adherence to laws and treaties protecting migrant workers.

According to the Department of Migrant Workers, Nacalaban’s remains were found after a tip-off from the brother of the alleged killer. The primary suspect is still at large.

The CHR also extended its condolences to Nacalaban’s family. Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez filed House Resolution No. 2151 on January 7, calling for a congressional investigation into the incident.
