A Chinese man wanted by authorities in China for alleged drug trafficking was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Parañaque City earlier this month.
Identified as 40-year-old Ouyang Shixing, the fugitive was apprehended on April 8 by the BI’s fugitive search unit at his condominium unit following a tip from the Chinese government.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado confirmed that Ouyang is facing drug-related charges in China and has been tagged with an Interpol red notice. “He has not left the country since he last arrived here on August 3, 2023, thus he will be deported for being an undesirable and overstaying alien. He will be blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” Viado said in a statement.
According to the BI’s Interpol unit, Chinese authorities issued a warrant for Ouyang’s arrest in November 2023 in connection with a drug trafficking case in Fuzhou City, Jiangxi. Investigators alleged that on May 12, 2023, he and an accomplice purchased methamphetamine and sold it for 70,000 yuan (approximately PHP 567,000).
Reports say Ouyang fled to Hong Kong by train on August 2, 2023, and then traveled to the Philippines shortly after, bringing with him the proceeds of the illegal transaction.
He is now being held at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, while deportation proceedings are underway.
