Chinese mukbang star dies from overeating during live broadcast

A 24-year-old mukbang star from China, Pan Xiaoting, tragically passed away due to overeating during a live broadcast, according to a report by Creaders.net.

Pan Xiaoting, who previously worked as a waiter, began her mukbang career after seeing a classmate profit from the trend. Mukbang involves eating large quantities of food in front of a camera, often live-streamed to an audience. Her initial streams attracted a modest following, but her popularity grew as viewers sent her likes and gifts.

To maintain and grow her audience, Xiaoting began taking on extreme eating challenges, such as consuming 10 kg of food in one sitting or eating food that is particularly difficult to digest. These stunts concerned her parents, who repeatedly warned her about the health risks. “You really can’t do this anymore, what’s the use of making more money?” they cautioned, highlighting the damage such overeating could cause to her body. Despite their concerns, Xiaoting believed she could handle the risks.

Her viewers also expressed concern, sending messages urging her to stop overeating. However, these warnings went unheeded. Xiaoting had previously been hospitalized due to stomach bleeding from overeating but resumed her extreme eating after being discharged.

Tragically, during a live broadcast where she attempted to eat for 10 hours nonstop, Xiaoting died. The autopsy report revealed that her abdomen was severely deformed and her stomach was filled with undigested food.
