Children in Abu Dhabi eligible for free additional MMR vaccine dose

Children in Abu Dhabi can now receive an extra free dose of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine, as announced by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre. This initiative, available to all children aged 1 to 5 years regardless of their previous vaccination status or history with measles, aims to enhance immunity against these contagious diseases.

The free vaccination offer runs from May 28 to June 17. Parents can book appointments for their children by visiting the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre’s website at www.adphc.gov.ae.

The MMR vaccine is highly effective in preventing measles, mumps, and rubella, providing around 99% protection against measles and rubella, and 88% protection against mumps with two doses. Vaccination also reduces the risk of serious complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, deafness, and even death. Additionally, it contributes to herd immunity, protecting those who cannot be vaccinated, like infants and immunocompromised individuals, by limiting the virus’s spread in the community.
