Former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson announced on Sunday that he will no longer pursue his Senate candidacy in the upcoming national elections, citing health reasons.
Speaking to supporters at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Singson revealed his decision to step back from the race after reflecting on his health.
“After much thought, I have decided not to continue my senatorial candidacy,” Singson said in his speech. “I don’t want to push myself if it means compromising my health.”
The veteran politician shared that he is recovering from pneumonia but still requires time to rest. Despite withdrawing, Singson expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from his supporters.
“I feel your love and continued belief in me. With your overwhelming support, I already feel like a winner,” he added.
Singson, who also served as deputy national security adviser, affirmed his commitment to initiatives benefiting transport groups. He plans to continue providing electric vehicles to modernize public transportation, an effort previously backed by a transport group known as the “Magnificent 7.”
During his campaign, Singson had also pledged to help individuals in need by offering financial aid through accessible bank accounts.
