Cavite 4th District Representative Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga, known online as “Congressmeow,” remained defiant on Wednesday, November 12, after receiving a subpoena for alleged violations of the Revised Penal Code.
In a Facebook post, Barzaga shared a copy of the subpoena, which identified Police Captain Aaron Blanco of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as the complainant. The 27-year-old lawmaker tagged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the post and wrote, “Bongbong Marcos, how many people have your father killed or imprisoned before he was removed from power?”
He followed with a rallying message: “This will not stop us, this will only make the revolution stronger!” choosing not to comment directly on the sedition charges.
Later that evening, the Dasmariñas City representative posted another statement, saying, “I always wanted to be a martyr, to die for a noble cause. I may not be able to witness our country’s future where President Marcos is imprisoned, but I’m glad to have contributed towards his downfall.”
The subpoena cited violations of Article 142 (Inciting to Sedition) and Article 138 (Inciting to Rebellion) of the Revised Penal Code, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act (Republic Act No. 10175).
Barzaga, once a supporter of Marcos during the 2022 elections, has since reinvented himself as a vocal critic of the administration, using his social media platforms to rail against what he describes as corruption and abuse of power.
